Daya 160: Thrifty Thursday

It has been, well, a really long time since I've participated in a Thrifty Thursday.

There is the BEST Goodwill fairly close to my house, added bonus its extremely close to the Super Target. I had a nice lil Saturday.

Banana Republic+ JCrew= a great thrifting experience.

The purse is SUPER cute but its a little hard to carry. I think I'm going to DIY and add a cross body chain, or something to it. Its just a bit awkward, but extremely cute. Nonetheless

Day 148: First Snow

I woke up yesterday morning to find this going on in my backyard. I knew it was going to snow, but I had no idea it was going to snow 6 inches! The leaves haven't  quite fallen off all the trees yet, so even though it was quite beautiful a lot of Denver homes were without power yesterday. I lucked out.

So now, with all this snow, I can really bust out the cozy sweater, boots, and oh yeah..did I mention I got a present awhile back? 

Remember how obsessed I was with this jacket from Gap but how I couldn't afford the hefty price tag? Well I guess somebody was reading my blog and wanted to brighten my day. The card read, "sorry I couldn't get you a real present on your birthday Love, Josh" I love that boy. He actually reads my blog too!

It is also Thrifty Thursday...mine is more like "Dumpster Diving Thursday". Yes, I do this from time to time because my neighbors leave all this perfectly good furniture in their back alleys all the time. I mean who throws out this perfectly good (but slightly dirty) Antique chair. The price tag....free!

I mean, how awesome is this fabric?

 I have a project in mind for the picture frame for my new "Craft Studio" area, as a jewelry display!

 

Ok, I know it is a bit dingy, I've tried upholstery cleaner, Oxiclean and I've Febreezed the puddin out of it. Anybody know any tips for getting "dingy-ness out of fabric?" 

If I can't get the dingy-ness out, I am going to just take the fabric off and  make these:

I like the red one with some poinsettias for Christmas Gifts....what do you think?

Day 144: Thrifty Thursday...errrr Friday!

Ok, sorry everyone, I've been slackin this week. My bff is here from Missouri looking for jobs (as am I) so we have been helping each other out this week with outfit choices (duh, that's the most important) critiquing resumes, doing facials and manis, and running all over Denver looking for jobs. It has been super fun and I am so glad she is here going through this nonsense with me. Its been nice to have some girl time with my best bud.

Anyways, needless to say haven't had much time (or the funds, frankly) to thrift this week so I have been looking on the internet for some fresh inspiration. Glamour.com always does the trick for me! I came across this wonderful idea I would have never thought of: layering a sweater over a shirtdress! Brilliant!

Day 139: Outfit: Check... Now I Just Need the Interview

Ok, Ok, I know that I am under strict shoe shopping ban (like this ever works) after I discovered I have over 60 pairs of shoes. That is a tad embarrassing. I probably wear 10 of them religiously. See what had happened was....I went into Payless the other day (I swear it was only to get Josh's birthday present, he wanted these somewhat ugly pair of Airwalks, because it was his birthday I gave in.) And the nude pumps I originally wanted for $24.99 were on sale for $9. I couldn't pass 'em up (I notice I use this phrase quite a bit when trying to justify my shoe purchases)

There was something about this "blouse" that caught my eye in the Goodwill...I have been searching high and low for a desk, and I just couldn't resist browsing the women's section. I've said this before, I am not a pink person (and it was a size 12, and ick, polyester!) but I brought it home anyways, only set me back $3.

I decided to practice my interview outfit for when the time comes. If you build it they will come (yes I know a Filed of Dreams reference has absolutely no reference here) They are supposed to let me know about the phone interview tomorrow. I haven't given up all hope yet, but its not looking good sportsfans :(

Day 135: Thrifty Thursday: The Fabric of My Life

I'll have to admit, I don't know when to use the term "shirt" "blouse" "top" "boob cover up"...I mean, what's the difference? Is there a correct term?

I guess if I had to call anything I own a "blouse" it would be this garment right here. I think it is so feminine for some reason...well for my closet. Its pink! I never wear pink. However, there was just something about it that I liked, turns out not the most flattering cut, but with the right necklace it looks pretty cute. It should probably be paired with something equally as girlie, say, a skirt...I just didn't have the strength today!

I got this handmade woven cotton "shirt" last month in Charleston on Megs and I's "Hurricane Goodwill Shopping Day". What a great day that was with an old friend of mine, if I could only just put that day on replay for awhile.....

I made this necklace ages ago with a simple copper chain (from Michaels) and old earrings, knickknacks, I think I even dismantled an old keychain..the result was pretty cute. Only downfall: impossible not to get tangled, blame the craftsmanship! 

Day 125: Um, Is That a Rug?

Yes, those were words that my mother asked when I held up my treasure at the Goodwill. I answered, "It probably was at one time!"

True, this vest-like creature looks like it has been through the ringer, but the more love someone puts into an article of clothing the more I love it, really.

In honor of "Thrifty Thursday" almost all of my outfit is thrifted, minus the bracelet, that was a gift. 

I don't do purple often, nor patterns, and I especially never do poofy sleeves, for that matter, but there was something unique about this top and I just had to have it.

The jeans are the ones I was referring to yesterday as my favorites. They are quite snug almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Me and my running shoes are gonna stomp all over that little problem.

Day 122: Five Finger Discount

If there is one thing in this world I know for certain: I have a bit of a shopping problem. But when an over sized patterned tee that fits perfectly and a lariat necklace cross your path, you don't let them pass you by. Isn't that a golden rule? I'm sure it is printed somewhere, "Convenient Theories For Lindsey", yeah, that exists somewhere! 

I am still sharing the awesome treasures I found at the Goodwill in Charleston. This rather cute backpack only set me back $3. Not too shabby. Still not the leather backpack of my dreams but it will suffice. 

The gladiators, a perfect shade of tan, I snagged out of Momma's closet this morning, sadly I have to give them back before I leave (or do I?) (mu-hoo-hoo-ha-ha...that's my evil shoe stealing villain laugh) She even said, "Don't even think about it!" she knows me so well. Little shoe stealer, I am!

And this is still not the gold watch of my dreams, but its large and in charge nonetheless, deserves a spot on my wrist!

Day 115: Colored Jeans?

This is one trend I have always thought "Just don't go there." Leave this one to the stick-thin celebrities with their on call personal trainers and personal chefs.

I do have a rule of thumb when trying trends: Try to find it at the Goodwill first.
Nothing worse then paying full price for a trendy piece of clothing that will be an afterthought in less than a month.

Once again, the Goodwill gods have shined their light upon me this month:

Picked these bad boys up for $6. I wasn't sure if they were for me at first seeing them on the rack. But I've been flirting with the idea of trying colored denim for awhile now. Perfect fit, long enough (perhaps a little too long) and the icing on the cake: I found a Tattered Cover (big, awesome book store in Denver) receipt in the pocket. These jeans are meant for me.

Can't wait til fall so I can tuck these into some boots! Pair with a sweater and a jacket...

Now if I can just find that lil' rascal gold watch, my Goodwill finds will be complete....well til next week :)

Day 111: To the Max-i!

This, my friends, has been a long time coming. I think I have been trying on maxi dresses now for about 2 years, never finding one that is long enough. And its rather frustrating because at 5'8'', I don't think I'm THAT tall really. I've scavenged thrift store after thrift store, Target after Target, even tried the more expensive Banana Republic, JCrew, etc, with no avail. But lo and behold, the Goodwill on Leetsdale came through in the clutch. For $5.

 Its long, its comfortable (well worn in), and it is from Express.

 

I'm not completely in love with the pattern, but I would say i don't dislike it. Sorry about the lack of styling, in my defense, I wasn't even planning on taking an outfit picture today, as I thought my camera had officially bit the dust.  But I shook it around a bit (rather forcefully at the point of rage) and presto! It started working again. So glad I didn't throw it against the wall. So that is why there is a sports bra under this, no makeup, and a messy ponytail as I was on my way to volleyball when the camera came back from the dead. I was also afraid to touch the camera in any way, shape or form, scared it would turn itself off again, so the photos are kinda out of focus.

I can't wait to style this maxi up.I think with a little jean jacket, some jewels, a little better hairdo, and we'll have ourselves something! Finally! I found one!
